Hensies-Pommerœul Coal Mines. Compositions and engravings by Gustave Pierre. Made in Paris, France 1937. Ader 16/15/09 #68. [ENERGY]. — Large oblong folio album, in sheets, in a publisher's illustrated cardboard folder with a tan sheepskin spine.
Superb album published by the Hensies-Pommerœul Coal Mines Society for their 25th anniversary. It contains a composition on the title page and 9 original etchings (365 x 490 mm) on the work in the mine by the painter and etcher Gustave Pierre (1875-1939), who had been a student of Gustave Moreau at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
It was printed in 800 registered copies on Japanese paper intended exclusively for staff with more than 10 years of service, plus 15 copies on parchment for the company's directors. This is one of 800 on Japanese paper, offered to Mr. Georges Broquet. A very well-preserved copy, despite rubbing and small losses on the spine and creases on the flaps. Foxing on the inside covers and the title. Matted. Overall size 22in x 28in (55.9 x 71.1cm).
This artswork is available as a set. The pieces are not for sale individually.
